About PaySakute
PaySakute is an app for people living abroad who look after family in The Gambia. It does two things: it tops up Gambian mobile numbers with airtime, and it buys NAWEC Cashpower for prepaid electricity meters. You pay by card in pounds, US dollars, euros, Canadian dollars or Australian dollars.
Airtime for any Gambian network
Airtime can be sent to Africell, QCell, Gamcel and Comium numbers. Enter a +220 number and PaySakute recognises the network as you type. If it does not recognise the network, it tells you before anything is sent, rather than asking you to pick one and hoping.
Cashpower for the right household
Before you pay for Cashpower, PaySakute checks the meter with NAWEC and shows you the name it is registered to. If NAWEC does not return a name, the purchase does not go ahead. When the token is issued it appears on your receipt and is sent by SMS to the Gambian phone you choose.
How we handle the price
Every purchase shows what the recipient gets in dalasi, our exchange rate, a processing fee on its own line, and the total. That total is the amount charged to your card, and it is the same figure on the payment screen, the receipt, your history and your card statement. If our rate or a provider’s figures change between confirming and paying, you are shown the new total and asked to accept it first.
How we handle the payment
- Your card stays with Stripe. Card details are entered and stored by Stripe, not PaySakute.
- You are never asked to pay twice. If the connection drops while a payment is being sent, PaySakute checks with your bank whether it went through and offers only Check status until it knows.
- Payment and delivery are reported separately. If a network or NAWEC turns a purchase down, PaySakute tells you whether you were charged and shows any refund in your history until it completes.
